Warning signs
Signs your tyres need attention
Tread below 3mm
The legal minimum is 1.6mm, but braking distance increases sharply below 3mm — especially in the wet.
Cuts, bulges or cracks
Sidewall damage can cause a sudden blowout. Get it inspected before your next journey.
Vibration at speed
Often a sign of imbalance or a damaged tyre — left unchecked it wears suspension components too.
Uneven wear across the tyre
Can point to incorrect pressure, alignment issues, or worn suspension components.
Common questions
Frequently asked questions
What's the legal tyre tread depth in the UK?
1.6mm across the central three-quarters of the tread, around the full circumference. Driving below this risks a fine of up to £2,500 and 3 penalty points — per tyre.
Do I need to replace tyres in pairs?
Not always, but tyres on the same axle should be closely matched for tread and type. We'll advise whether a single replacement is safe or a pair makes more sense.
Can a punctured tyre always be repaired?
Only if the damage is small and within the central tread area. Sidewall damage or large punctures mean replacement is needed for safety.
How long does tyre fitting take?
Usually 20–30 minutes per tyre, including balancing. Most customers wait or drop off and collect.
